LEARN TO GOVERN YOUR MIND AND BODY , YOU CAN GOVERN THE WHOLE WORLD

- Principal
(Mr. Mritunjay Shukla)

Principal (Mr. Mritunjay Shukla)

You are welcome to the world of most beautiful creation of God i.e. children. As Wordsworth says, "Child is the father of man." Therefore, Pragjyotish School is the place where a child learns the trades and value of life. As all know, our society runs on belief and trust between one another. Time has changed greatly and so the definition of man and material. We, here, in this institution play the role of senior friends and councilors of children unlike many other institutions where the natural tendency of a child is either suppressed or not allowed to grow. The establishment, the achievements and the management of this school in the successive pages will make you to believe that the above lines are not exaggeration but facts.

A Poem By Mr. Mritunjay Shukla

UNIQUE FEATURE - This is the only school in the history of Secondary School of Assam where classes from "Nursery to class X started together. (Classes started from 1989 and the first batch of H. S. L. C Examination appeared in 1990)

In the first batch itself a student of this school " Master Mahesh Ladha" secured highest marks in " Social Studies".

My Days in School

When I retired from my previous assignment in a college I began to wonder what I shall do with rest of my life. I felt that I am still capable of doing some work since I worked as a teacher for the major part of life. I sought an assignment in an educational institution where I can do the only that I can do, teaching, so when principal kindly offered me an opening I happily accepted it. It is now nine year since I joined the school and the years have been happy and pleasant for me. I have been impressed by the discipline of the school, my colleague have always been kind, helpful and also respectful to me and, if it is not presumptuous, I would like to add that the principal has become a close friend of mine over the years. The most pleasant and happy things for me is that I have come in contact with young and eager minds which make me forget my old age. I am happy that I am still capable of contributing, in my small way, a little to the cause of education. When I joined the school I told the principal that a man should work as long as he lives. I do not know if I shall be able to go according to my conviction, I can only say that I shall try. Now a days there is a general impression that the standard of education has gone down and the top brass of the educational ladder are worried about finding a solution. I have no solution to offer, I can only say what I think about it. I think that, in general, the work culture of the people has been eroded, we work, but we take it easy, seldom aware of our responsibilities and we don't always put hearts into it. In the matter of education, I feel that the stress is more on vocation than on education. Scoring high marks in an examination has become a goal of education and learning has been relegated to a secondary position, learning for the shake of learning is no longer a desirable thing. As a result has become mechanical. But in the modern society success in life depends on examination results. Success in modern times has taken a different connotation it only means material success, not the true success of life, when we can stand up and call ourselves a man. And so my thinking become just an idle philosophical speculation. But I have come to terms with it because I know I will have to live with it, whatever my personal ideas are.

My Experience

1994 is the year when I was employed as an Assistant teacher of Pragjyotish English Medium high School . It is about 7 years and 4 months that I am working here as science teacher. I also have experience of teaching Hindi and general Knowledge in junior classes. The school management is very strict, which I think is essential for development of the school. Because of this the student are disciplined and the students as well as teachers are regular and sincere in their work, which has brought good name for this school and good results in H.S.L.C exams. The school not only takes interest in scholastic activities but also in non-scholastic activities. Various extra curricular activities are held from time to time to judge the talent of the students. I am very happy to be a member of this school and hope this school will earn more name and fame in years to come.

Being A Teacher

Being a teacher never occurred to me unless I actually became one. After completing my post graduation, I opted for teaching which was easy to get and the most respected. Before joining Pragjyotish English Medium High School I had worked at several other institutions and the experiences I had working there were varied. On my first visit to the school, I found the place very similar to any other educational institution. After joining the school, I was very comfortable on seeing quite a few known faces amongst the staff. Now, its almost three years I have been working here and I have never thought of changing the job. There is no void between the teachers and the management. Certain measures taken by the management are at time difficult for the teacher to follow, but it needs to be understood that without them running a school would have been impossible. In P.E.M.H.S., the main aim of the teachers is not to produce doctors, engineers, professors etc. for the society but to create true human beings. In a result oriented society, though it is very hard to achieve this aim, we are trying our best with the proper guidance from our Principal. I, till date, have not faced any problem as such and am enjoying working here. My school though has a long way to go before being called 'the best' would certainly be able to reach the point of excellence and make as proud. I personally feel that because of lake of space in this branch, the academic part is too overweighing on the children. So, some times as a part of non-scholastic activity if they are provided with games etc., they would be able to rejuvenate their potential and come out with better performance. Lastly, I feel that I would certainly like to continue serving this institution with able cooperation of the management and the teaching staff.

Pragjyotish

Pragjyotish English Medium school is definitely a major inspiration to the teacher's and other members. In the bygone  days I have been influenced by the people of Pragjyotish who take their jobs seriously and want the students to have the best in every field. I am extremely fortunate by being a member of this institution. It is sheer truth that the environment of the Pragjyotish and the painstaking observation of the respected Principal has made me understand the inner meaning of discipline, punctuality and above all that education does not mean mere reading text books and passing examination. Education thus acquired is very much incomplete often is not of much help in practical life. Pragjyotish is a place for inculcating reasonable feeling of achievement. I hope Pragjyotish, an enterprising institution can rouse humane feelings in the society which are now the most required norms. I hope its high and genuine outlook and aim will equip the students a great deal to face the hard reality of life.
